Tom Standish

Tom has been practicing law in Las Vegas for over 30 years, the vast majority of that time devoted exclusively to complex family law litigation matters with an emphasis on complex contested matters.

Tom has a long and close association with the Nevada Justice Association (formerly the Nevada Trial Lawyers Association) sitting as a member of the Board of Governors of NJA for approximately 20 years, as President of NJA in 1995-1996, and helping direct the activities of the NJA political action committee, Citizens for Justice, and as a trustee of the committee for over 10 years.

As a part of his commitment to the NJA, as a young attorney, Tom was trained by NJA as a lobbyist in the Legislature and served as Co-Chair of the NJA Domestic Relations Committee and has been involved in multiple legislative sessions, the drafting of legislation and in lobbying efforts and testimony before multiple legislative committees on family law issues.

Tom lectures extensively to attorneys and other professional groups on numerous community property and family law subjects at the annual State Bar Family Law Section conference and many other forums over the years, including multiple presentations in the Supreme Court CLE seminar which precedes the Family Law Section conference each year.

Tom also has served as an Adjunct Professor at the William S Boyd School of Law since 2006 and continues to teach Community Property to Boyd students each year.

Tom has significant experience as a mediator in divorce cases, including a number of complex domestic relations cases, and has served as co-counsel in several significant civil actions with respect to business valuation, appraisal, and forensic accounting issues.

John Waite

John L. Waite III was born in Springfield, Missouri and attended Missouri State University where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 1996 with dual majors in Finance and Insurance/Risk Management and a minor in the Reserve Officers’ Training Corp program.  Upon graduation, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army National Guard and attended Officer Basic Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, as an artillery officer.  

Including his time as a cadet, John served 11 years in the military.    John subsequently obtained his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Missouri State University in 1999 while working in the securities industry as a portfolio administrator with State Street Bank in Kansas City, Missouri.

William S. Boyd School of Law

In 2000, John was accepted into the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, William S. Boyd School of Law.  John worked full-time as a securities trader with M&I Global Securities Lending while attending law school in the evenings.  After graduating law school in 2003, John accepted a judicial clerkship with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, District of Nevada.  

Following his clerkship, John worked for a national law firm in Kansas City, Missouri.  Over the next 10 years, John’s legal experience consisted of a general litigation practice involving real estate transactions, employment law, contract disputes, collections and creditors’ rights, bankruptcy, family law, probate disputes, and FINRA/AAA arbitration.  John was also appointed as a guardian ad litem to represent children who were placed in foster care due to neglect and/or abuse suffered at the hands of their parents or other caregivers. 

In 2016, John returned to Las Vegas, Nevada, and began working for the Clark County, Eighth Judicial District Court of Nevada, as a compliance officer and law clerk with the Probate Department.   

In 2020, John returned to the private practice of law, where he practiced in the areas of estate planning, probate/trust litigation, guardianship, and family law.  In 2024, John joined the Standish Law Group focusing his practice to family law.  John has been recognized for his professional accomplishments through his selection as a Rising Star by Super Lawyers in 2013, 2014 and 2015. 

Julia Standish

Following in her dad’s footsteps, Julia is proud to be a life-long Nevadan. After attending the University of Toronto, Julia graduated from UNLV’s William S. Boyd School of Law, where she received the “Highest Pro Bono Honors” distinction on her diploma for her 100+ hours of pro bono service during law school. 

During law school, Julia served as a junior and senior staffer on the Nevada Law Journal, worked as a law clerk at Kemp Jones, and externed with Family Court Judge Art Ritchie as well as Nevada Supreme Court Justice Abbi Silver.

In conjunction with the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada, Julia also lectured at night on Nevada divorce procedures and was awarded with the “Outstanding Student in Community Service Award” in 2020. 

Additionally, Julia earned the CALI Award in Fall 2021 after receiving the highest academic grade in her Business Organizations law school course. 

For approximately five years preceding law school, Julia was appointed to numerous high-level positions on multiple statewide and local Nevada political campaigns. In 2018 alone, Julia raised in excess of $5 million in campaign contributions with her candidates. Some of Julia’s most recent roles included: the Executive Finance Director to Attorney General Aaron Ford and Clark County Commissioners Justin Jones, Tick Segerblom and Jim Gibson, along with other varied high-level roles in the democratic campaigns of Lieutenant Governor Kate Marshall, State Treasurer Zach Conine, Nevada Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro, and Speaker of the Nevada Assembly Jason Frierson.   

Julia’s diverse experience in fast-paced political campaigns and pro bono legal work empower her to enter complex divorce matters with a unique, solution-oriented point of view.

Ms. Low has worked as a paralegal exclusively in family law in Clark County since 1995, having obtained an Associates Decree in Legal Secretarial Science in 1976 in Illinois, and a paralegal Associates Decree in Las Vegas in 2004.

Jane Standish

 Jane manages the business operations of the practice.  Her early work history included work as a paralegal, followed by 23 years in banking and investments, primarily dealing with high-net-worth individuals in corporate and private banking.  Prior to joining Standish Law Group she spent several years as a personal assistant in the entertainment industry.
